ALDERSHOT, UK – The Greater Rushmoor Nepali Community (GRNC) celebrated International Women’s Day on Saturday, 7th March 2026, at The Palace Restaurant in Aldershot in a landmark collaboration with the Rushmoor Borough Council (RBC). This event marked the first time the celebration was organized with the direct support and cooperation of the local council, signaling a new chapter of integration and partnership in the region.
The program was organized under the empowering theme “Give to Gain.” The Chief Guest, Mayor of Rushmoor Calum Stewart, along with Special Guests Alex Baker MP Aldershot and Sophie Porter, delivered powerful and encouraging speeches that resonated with the attendees. The event also saw a significant turnout of local leadership, including County Councillor Alex Crawford, Jennifer Evans, former Mayor Mara Makunura, as well as several current and former councillors and representatives from both the Nepali and non-Nepali communities.
Beyond the formal addresses, the conference served as a vital platform for social education. Experts from various fields delivered presentations on critical issues such as mental health, the reduction of domestic violence, child safeguarding, sexual health, and crime prevention. Insights were also shared regarding the Thriving Community Project and the work of the Amani Women’s Organisation. GRNC Secretary, Prajesh Shrestha, noted that the day was further enriched by a variety of activities for children, vibrant cultural dances, musical performances, and a community raffle draw.
The multilingual, multicultural, and inclusive nature of the celebration delivered a strong, positive message to the wider local community. GRNC President Lila Seling Mabo concluded the event by thanking all supporters and participants for their contributions in making the historic celebration a resounding success.
