In a world with increasing awareness of the environmental and health impacts of chemical-laden products, Eco-Revive is an initiative in the emerging startup world taking the charge with its innovative, eco-friendly hair care solutions under the brand name of “dear”. Founded in 2023 by sisters and biotechnologists Sushma Paudel and Sushmita Paudel, this startup is redefining hair care by combining traditional Nepali wisdom with modern scientific formulation.
“Our mission is to provide affordable, natural, and effective hair care solutions while supporting local farmers and reducing environmental waste,” says Sushma Paudel, Co-Founder of Eco-Revive. “We believe that beauty and sustainability can go hand in hand.
”Eco-Revive’s products are crafted using natural ingredients like reetha (soapnut) and shikakai, sourced directly from farmers in rural regions such as Surkhet, Arghakhanchi, Baitadi, and Doti. By directly sourcing ingredients from rural farmers the company ensures fair pricing and supports sustainable agricultural practices, fostering economic growth in under-served regions.
“We realized that while Nepal is rich in natural resources like reetha ( soapnut) , its commercial potential remains largely untapped in Nepal. Through Eco-Revive, we not only bring a powerful, natural alternative to consumers but also create sustainable livelihoods for rural communities involved in harvesting these ingredients,” said Sushmita Paudel, Co-founder of Eco-Revive.
With an increasing global demand for natural, chemical-free hair care solutions, Eco-Revive stands out by offering a product line deeply rooted in Nepal’s traditional knowledge while catering to
contemporary consumers seeking safe, effective, and sustainable alternatives. Thus, Eco-Revive is more than just a brand; it’s a movement advocating for conscious consumerism and the preservation of indigenous knowledge.
Award-Winning Innovation
Eco-Revive has already made waves in the entrepreneurial ecosystem, winning the Innovation Grant Prize for Climate-Smart Entrepreneurship and securing 1st Runner-Up at the National Business Idea Competition 2024. The startup has participated in leading accelerator programs and dialogues, including the Coca-Cola Sakshyam Accelerator Program, FAO’s National Agri-Innovation Challenge, and the National Food Forum. It has also been part of the PUM Incubation training and Springboard Elevate
Program 2024 organized by Youth Co:Lab, and UNDP. Additionally, Eco-Revive has been awarded the Nabil SSE Fellowship. These achievements underscore the startup’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
Aligning with Global Goals
Eco-Revive’s work aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including: SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action)
Product Line Expansion:
Eco-Revive’s flagship product, Dear Shampoo, is an all-natural, deeply nourishing formula designed to cleanse and rejuvenate the scalp while promoting healthier, softer hair. Unlike conventional shampoos laden with harsh chemicals, Dear Shampoo offers a toxin-free, biodegradable alternative that is gentle on both hair and the environment. The brand is also expanding its product line to include conditioners, hair rinses, and hair masks that align with its sustainability mission.
Challenges
The brand has already conducted successful market validation tests, proving that those familiar with soapnut are eager to embrace this natural cleansing agent. However, due to a lack of awareness among
younger generations on the benefits of natural hair care and the environmental impact of chemical, based products, they are facing challenges in competing with mass-market synthetic shampoos.
“Without widespread awareness, innovative products like ours risk remaining niche and underutilized. Consumer education is just as important as product development,” added Sushma Paudel.
A Vision for a Sustainable Future
To address this, Eco-Revive is engaging in awareness campaigns, and as part of its growth strategy, they are actively seeking collaborating with eco-conscious influencers, and exploring partnerships with hotels and wellness centers that align with its vision for sustainability.
“With the right support, Eco-Revive can scale its impact, ensuring that Nepal’s rich natural resources are utilized in a way that benefits both people and the planet,” said Sushmita Paudel.
