OMAHA, NEBRASKA । Venerable Dr. Kumar Gurung, a prominent leader, entrepreneur, and spiritual activist within the Nepali-speaking Bhutanese community, has been honored with the prestigious ‘Lifetime Legacy and Leadership Award 2026.’
He was presented with a Certificate of Honor during the Bhutanese Joint Annual Convention 2026 held in Omaha, Nebraska, in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to education, spirituality, entrepreneurship, humanitarian service, and cultural awareness.
The honor was jointly conferred by the Global Bhutanese Organization (GBO), Global Bhutanese Literary Organization (GBLO), Bhutanese American Music Association (BAMA), Global Foundation (GF), and the Bhutanese Society of Nebraska (BSN). Overcoming the immense challenges of a refugee background to earn a doctorate in Business Administration, Dr. Gurung was highlighted by the organizing bodies as an inspirational global leader in Gurung Buddhist tradition. His life story was presented as an exemplary model of resilience, leadership, and social responsibility.
At the same event, senior leader Dr. Narad Pokhrel was also honored for his notable contributions to humanitarian service, strategic leadership, and literature.
Mastered by literary figure Diyalo Susan Majhi and opened with a welcome address by Bhim Gurung, the convention featured deep discussions on language, literature, music, and cultural identity. The program included vibrant cultural dances, poetry recitals, and musical performances, alongside announcements from various Bhutanese-American organizations regarding future plans for youth empowerment, Nepali language education, and refugee welfare.
